  • Sara Challice
Award Winning Author of ‘Who Cares?’ and Speaker
Transforming the lives of carers, raising the value of care
    https://www.whocares4carers.com
Two in three of us will be a carer during our lifetime, and up to 70% of carers fall mentally or physically unwell.

Sara has appeared on TV and radio, and regularly gives talks to local and national charities, and businesses supporting unpaid carers in the workplace.

Sara cared for her husband for 13 years after he fell ill from a brain tumour. Due to the pressures of caring, she gave up her career as a graphic designer to look after him full-time. Following a stroke, he became bed-bound and needed full-time nursing care. Whilst caring for years, Sara became both mentally and physically unwell. She then found new ways to regain her health and enjoy life again, even whilst continuing to care for a terminally ill husband.

Sara now gives insight and strategies to carers on how they can improve their resilience and boost their health and wellbeing – which is not only good for themselves but also those around them.

Having been a trustee for five years for a neurological charity, she now sits on the Richmond Health and Wellbeing Board. Also a mindfulness instructor, Sara has regularly given her ’Wisdom to Empower’ course for carers, which remains one of the largest online crowd-pullers for Carers UK.

‘Life is not about abstaining and enduring, it is still about enjoying your life, especially if you are a carer.’

There are probably as many attempts to explain suicide as there are human beings. Our experience of life says that no reason is the one. Because while every brook and river eventually flows into the sea, each does so after its very own marvelous, breathtaking and unspeakable journey. And while it seems to be generally accepted that grief is a natural reaction to significant loss, how can we say that ending one's life by suicide isn't a natural reaction to apparently endless significant lack of conditions to thrive? So how is suicide not the ultimate expression of grief?

Harald and Margot began their mission after their daughter, Lisa Louise, died by suicide in 2014. Initially, they established A Chance for Happiness Foundation, organizing annual charity events in exceptional locations such as Velden am Wörthersee, Austria 2017, Vienna, Austria 2018, Paris, France 2019, Monaco 2020 and – following the global Covid break – at Laxenburg Castle near Vienna, Austria 2022. Meanwhile, the closing session of their latest event, held at Westminster Chapel in London in 2023, marked the official announcement of the World Mental Health Forum, a global exchange of most up-to-date information and best practices, presenting mental health thought leaders and changemakers through regular newsletters, live podcasts, and annual conferences around the world.
